As I understand it, all of these islands are uninhabited. But did the Maori, before the arrival of the Europeans, ever temporarily inhabit any of them, visit any of them or at least know about any of them? I'm just trying to figure "how far south" the Polynesians went. I know that they reached Stewart Island, and therefore I figure that they might at least have explored the waters further south. What do you say?

- I haven't found any source of Maori having lived on the Campbell Islands, which is further south than the Auckland Islands, (or even on Macquarie Island, which is still further south), but from the fact that a Maori/Polynesian name exists for Campbell Island (Motu Ihupuku) I conclude that the Maori have known or visited it. It would be interesting to know if the Maori also knew or visited Macquarie Island.--Ratzer 17:41, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
