[edit] Template for Additions
If you would like to add to this page I would encourage the browsing of the Law Enforcement Project Template that is being developed for Law Enforcement organization pages. It can be found at [Wiki Organization Page Template]. It gives a really good idea of what information is not present and where to put it. It is still in development so checking back or contributing is very helpful.cprockhill 16:45, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Editing the NYSP page
The NYS Trooper page has been changed to a previous version. If I do not speak for the many people having worked on this page then let me know; but having said that totally taking the page apart, removing information that is valid and pictures that add depth and interest to the page does not really enhance this Wiki entry. Biggfishny I am not sure what you were trying to do but as far as I can tell you simply decided that you didn't like the way the page was laid out. I have made this page more uniform with the other state police agency sites. I would ultimately like work with others to devise a set template for all the pages; a set standard. If you would like to discuss this with me and work toward making a standard starting with the NY trooper page let me know. Finally, if you add a comment that explains your edit that will help to shed light on the work you do on the page. cprockhill

- I have removed the same paragraph again, I agree with you about the uniformity of the state police pages, but the facts in that paragraph are no longer accurate, Pataki is only Governor for two more days, and Mcmahon is no longer in the position cited, the new Governor has made no announcements (except for Mcmahons position) and I will provide accurate info with citations when it is announced. --Biggfishny 01:08, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Excellent, glad to see we are moving in the same direction. Sometimes when you see changes that large they can be accidental and I was really hoping that was the case. Also glad to have you up to date on those changes, really wasn't tracking the Mcmahon thing. Thanks cprockhill 03:25, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] NYSP Badge
Does anybody know the policy for posting pictures of the NYSP Badge online. I have images that I have gotten from other places but do not want to post it if it is against their policies of reproduction or if it violates their polices? I would like to add a Side Bar with the logo and some facts about strength, current super...facts at a glance sort of thing.cprockhill 16:33, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Praetorian Guard
In the trivia section it was written that the purple color of the NYSP Trooper ties and Stetsons represent the elite unit they are and is worn as the elite Praetorian Guard did. Is this comment to suggest that the Praetorian Guard of Ancient Rome wore purple, wore ties that were purple, wore Stetsons? The troopers did not change to the Stetsons until late in the last century, I want to say 80s (please check that fact..I know they didn't always wear Stetsons...at the Crime lab in Albany there is a display in the lobby that shows the head gear that NYSP wore prior to Stetsons and gives more detailed information including a date). Or is this trivia comment using the term Praetorian guard(s) as designative of an exclusive, unconditionally loyal group personally attached to powerful people? I have heard that the purple was selected to denote royalty. I don't know the reason why they switched to Stetsons. Can someone please clear this up so this factoid can be as specific as possible.cprockhill 18:05, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Although there has been additional headgear available, NY Troopers have always wore stetsons, and the purple refers to the purple highlights worn on the uniform of the Praetorian Guard. --Biggfishny 13:53, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Demographics
This was an interesting addition of information on the demographic breakdown of the NYSP; which was removed promptly...however couldn't it be worked into the general body of the article?
- Male: 92%
- Female: 8%
- White: 83%
- African-American/Black: 10%
- Hispanic: 7%[1]

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Nysp magnet logo.jpg
Image:Nysp magnet logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] 9/11?
Would somebody care to add information about how the state police helped in the response on 09/11/2001? 69.140.152.55 (talk) 07:29, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
