To-do
list

Pending tasks for New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway:

(purge cache –  edit this list)
  • add references
  • find and add other historical photos
  • further refine and edit the article text overall
  • Create another article containing a complete, all-time locomotive roster including information from this talk page
  • add a section dealing with accidents
  • add a list of chief executives/presidents List added, just needs some refining. List is complete. All known presidents of the NYS&W are on the list.
  • add photos from http://www.maywoodstation.com/ As many photos as I feel comfortable adding from this source are in the article - any more might risk deletion
  • a couple more detailed maps? Maps are made, just tailoring them for the article.
  • add good stubs to get rid of red links Except for the WB&E stub, all other stubs have been added. Can't see adding stubs for every name mentioned in the article.

[edit] New Update

I cleaned the links to the article, all redirects bypassed. I'd love to see a picture of the GP18's, all 3 together if possible, from when they were first purchased. It would make a great addition to the section dealing with dieselization. The NYSW was one of the original GP18 customers and bought 1800, 1802 and 1804 brand new, and they're still working today. I did come across a roster of power that should be linked to, or even a new article created. I'll get the link on the references section asap. Kether83 16:39, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

I see someone is starting to chronicle the adventures of 142 in the article. I suspect NYS&WT&HS involvment. Probably so they can take credit for this article, much in the same way they took credit for the Maywood station restoration when 99% of the T&HS had NOTHING to do with the station restoration. 3D jonny 22:29, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Easy does it.. we all love the same road, right? Anyway, the 142 "saga" is something I'm pretty much all in the dark about. As a kid, I rode behind it when it was a Valley RR locomotive, and later as a NYS&W one, so those are pretty much my only in-person experiences. I know it was down by P-burg for a while, but they built a shed at Butler for it. I'm sort of confused, so any info is welcome, right? Kether83 03:22, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
I take it you have had no dealings with the group. Consider yourself lucky. I won't go into specifics here, but ask around and you'll know what I mean. The engine is no longer owned by the railroad, so any information past it going into storage is irrelevant to the article. Most of the time the tender isn't even lettered SUSQUEHANNA anyway. 3D jonny 12:15, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
I haven't dealt with them in many years... the last time I spoke with anyone it was a letter I got from Rich Onorevole. I worked with the VRA before I moved to Boston and worked/rode on one of their SD speeder runs. They seem to be the group to follow Kether83 19:42, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] CNY

I made a Central New York Railroad article - I'll come up with a way to edit the article text to incorporate the CNY, but for now I think the little info there is is adequate for the NYSW article. I'll take some pictures of the CNY when I'm down that way - should be this weekend. Kether83 19:42, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Walter Rich

Apparently Walter Rich has lost his battle with cancer, can anyone confirm this? Kether83 12:06, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes, He passed away a few weeks ago. I don't have a news paper link, but he died in the beginning of the month. 3D jonny 18:50, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
He died on August 9. See [1] for one obit. There will likely be something in Trains magazine next month too. Slambo (Speak) 19:06, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
That link seems dead, this one [2] is good as of now. While an article for him doesn't exist and wouldn't be justified as per the Wiki-Regulations, I think he does deserve a section, but in which article? I'm would suppose the Delaware Otsego Corporation one. Kether83 05:16, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] References

PLEASE do not remove any references! We need more of them, not less. I replaced two that were removed after the Late 80s section was removed and the Motive Power section added. Kether83 19:17, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Motive Power

A good project would be editing this section to sound less railfan and more encyclopedia; it's great info but it's a bit jargony. Kether83 19:17, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
