New Castle is a beautiful little town near the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. It is rich in civil war history, with its own battle on the Courthouse lawn which is reinacted every year at the fall festival. The Fall Festival is held on the second Saturday in October. At the festival there is music, crafts, food, and tours of the Old Brick Hotel on main street. Legend has it that Jesse James once stayed there. If you like senic road trips go along Rt 42 to Pembroke and see the Cascades waterfall or make your way to Mountain Lake where Dirty Dancing was filmed. Or take Rt 615 to Femwick Mines and walk the trails and enjoy a picnic there. If you want to take Rt 311 to West Virginia be sure to visit the Cheese Store and Bakery across the street in Union. Or go on to Greenbrier and see the beautiful hotel and antique stores and Christmas shops. The people of New Castle are down home country people. The men are gentlemen and the ladies are southern to the bone. Its not unusual to see a gentleman tip his hat to a lady on the street. Everyone knows everyone and everybody loves their Mama and God. Its a good place to visit, a good place to live, and a great place to grow up. Yaw come n see us ya hear.
