Newcastle Aviation Academy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Newcastle Aviation Academy is an off-site university campus located at Newcastle International Airport. It was officially opened in March 2004 by the Rt Hon Alan Johnston MP. The main aim of the Academy is to supply the aircraft industry with more trained engineers. This is because there is currently a shortage of aeronautical engineers with licenses to maintain aircraft due to a rapidly growing demand for air travel and an aging workforce.

The course that is held at The Newcastle Aviation Academy (NAA) lasts for two years and has two parts to it. The first part is the Aircraft Engineering Foundation Degree which is supervised by Kingston University. The second part is the training and examinations for the EASA (European Aviation Safety Association) B1 Mechanical License. These two parts run concurrently; similar exams are sat on the same day, if possible. To achieve the full license though, one must spend two years in the aircraft industry to gain enough experience to be fully qualified.

To aid this training, there are excellent facilities which include, a working Boeing 737-200 to work on, well-equipped workshops, comfortable classrooms, a top quality computer lab and staff with plenty of experience with the aviation industry.
