Newbold, Philadelphia

Newbold is a neighborhood in South Philadelphia. Its boundaries are Washington Ave (south side), Broad Street (west side), W. Passyunk (north side), 18th Street (west side). This area has historically been part of Point Breeze, however residents who have recently moved to the area have given it the name of Newbold as part of an ongoing revitalization effort. The neighborhood derived its name from the previous name for Hicks Street. The main recreation areas in this neighborhood is the DiSilvestro Playground, located at 15th & Morris Streets, and Guerin Rec, Located at 16th St. and Jackson St.
Civic groups active in the area include the the Newbold Community Development Corporation, Newbold South Civic Association (formerly G.R.O.U.P)(boundaries: Passyunk Avenue to Wolf Street and S. Board Street to 18th Street) , Newbold Neighbors Association (boundaries: Washington Avenue to Passyunk Avenue, and S Broad Street to S 18th Street), the South Broad Street Neighborhood Association, and the Point Breeze NAC.
