New York State Route 319 (also known as NY 319) was a short spur from the town of Preston to the nearby city of Norwich. The route was 5.47 miles (8.80 km) long and began at an intersection with three Chenango county roads. Route 319 headed eastward into the city of Norwich and terminated at an intersection with New York State Route 12 in the downtown regions. The route was decommissioned in July of 1984 and replaced by Chenango County Route 10A.

[edit] Route description
Route 319 began at a few slip-off ramps at an intersection with Chenango County Routes 4, 10, and 19 in the town of Preston. Route 319 headed to the northeast, leaving downtown. The road went up a mountain, which peaked at 1,538 feet (469 m). After a short distance on the mountain, the highway went up once again, peaking at 1,774 feet (541 m), where it passed the Racker-Mason Cemetery. Route 319 crossed the Gilmore River, where, just after, it crossed into the town of Norwich, where Chenango CR 19 terminates after parallelling 319.[4]
After intersecting with a few local roads, Route 319 turned to the southeast inwards into the city of Norwich. There, the road became known as West Main Street and terminates at an intersection with NY 12.[4]
[edit] History
Route 319 was once the Norwich and Preston Turnpike, a privately-owned and maintained turnpike. The turnpike was created on April 8, 1808 stretching from Norwich to Preston.[5] The route was assigned by 1936[3] along the turnpike and remained intact until July 1984.[2] Then, Route 319 was decommissioned in a swap, with maintenance of the road was turned over to Chenango County.[6] Chenango County then replaced the route with County Route 10A.
