New York State Route 216 (NY 216) is a short state highway located entirely in Dutchess County, New York, USA. At 6.22 mi (10.01 km) in length, it connects NY 52 and NY 55 between Stormville at the east end and Poughquag at the west. Route 216 was originally part of New York State Route 39 in the 1920s. As part of the 1930 renumbering, NY 39 was redesignated as part of New York State Route 52, which was renumbered to New York State Route 216 a few years later. In 1970, Route 216 was truncated to its current eastern terminus in Poughquag.

[edit] Route description
NY 216's western terminus is at NY 52 in Stormville, New York, just south of the Branton Woods Golf Club. It heads north into the center of Stormville and intersects with Old Route 52, a former alignment of NY 52. The route makes a sharp turn to the east, then to the north, before intersecting with Phillips Road and turning eastward. Proceeding east, NY 216 intersects CR 8 in the village of Green Haven. After intersecting with several local roads, it turns north and intersects CR 7 in the town of Poughquag. South of the Beekman Cemetery, NY 216 terminates at NY 55.[2]
[edit] History
In 1926, the modern–day NY 216 and NY 55 were signed as part of NY 39.[3] In the 1930 renumbering, the portion of NY 39 between East Fishkill and the western fringe of Patterson was redesignated as part of the new New York State Route 52. The portion of Route 39 between Poughkeepsie and East Fishkill was renumbered to New York State Route 202. Between Patterson and NY 22, old NY 39 was renumbered to New York State Route 311. A few years later, a portion of NY 52 was renumbered to New York State Route 216.[4][5][6]
By 1938, NY 52 and NY 216 swapped alignments; Route 52 was relocated to its current alignment between Stormville and Lake Carmel, and the former alignment of the route between Stormville and Patterson become a part of Route 216.[6][7] It remained untouched until January 1, 1970 when Route 216 was truncated to its current eastern terminus in Poughquag. As part of the truncation, NY 216's former alignment from West Pawling to Patterson was renumbered to New York State Route 292.[8]
