Route 138 is a state highway located entirely in Wall Township, New Jersey that extends 3.52 miles (5.66 km). Its western end is at the eastern terminus of Interstate 195 at the interchange with Route 34, and its eastern end is at Route 35. It was first built as part of Route 38 in 1941 and renumbered "138" in 1988 when it became clear that the gap between two sections of Route 38 would not be filled. The highway is also meant to be an evacuation route in case of a disaster, where the eastbound lanes (as well as the eastbound lanes on Interstate 195) would be reversed all the way to the New Jersey Turnpike.
