Photo of model Newcomen steam engine at University of Glasgow, Scotland, improved by James Watt between 1763 and 1775, resulting in the first modern steam engine. Alterations: cropped out frame and caption, increased brightness. The caption read: 'The Newcomen engine, in the repairing of which Watt was led to his great discoveries. Preserved in the University of Glasgow.'
