[edit] P.E.O. Sisterhood
I have removed information on the "secret society" status of this organization because it is simply not relevant here. Someone is trying to add this information everywhere they can, and it's just not appropriate. Beginning 23:25, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Spelling and pronunciation
If the correct and accepted pronunciation of this town's name is "Nuh-vay-duh, why are all the highway and other signs spelled like the state of Nevada which is clearly pronounced as "Neh-va-da"? No outsider would know that referring to it as Nevada is incorrect. 21:21, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Bobengel
- I can verify that the people I know from Vernon County pronounce it "Nuh-vay-duh". You are right that an outsider wouldn't know this without being told or observant. This is not that unusual for place names in the united states. Try Newark NJ (something like "Newirk") Vs. Newark DE (new-Ark). I've heard differing stories on how to pronounce the Arkansas River. Which brings up the pronunciation difference between the states of Kansas (Can-sass) and Arkansas (Ar-can-saw). Or most places in the US with place names from England are pronounced completely differently than the original. Ferritecore 01:31, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- This is no different than having ber-LIN in Germany and BURR-lin in Massachusetts, or CUV-en-tree in England and CAHV-in-tree in Connecticut. It's pretty commonplace with proper nouns. Beginning 23:23, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
I avoid all the fuss by pronouncing the name in Klingonish 68.13.60.210 (talk) 01:31, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm a former resident of the town and I can confirm that we pronounce it as in the article. I'm removing the "citation needed" tag. 198.49.81.49 (talk) 16:34, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
