The edits I just reverted are not just of 82.156.71.55 (talk · contribs), who added Pierre van Hooijdonk, Dirk Kuyt and Robin van Persie to the list of famous players, but also of 62.252.128.18 (talk · contribs), who claimed that the Dutch national football team had won the 1930 World Cup. The latter is obviously not true. I also believe that Van Hooijdonk, Kuyt and Van Persie are not yet famous and prominent enough to be included in the Famous Players section. Kuyt has now played 10 matches for the Dutch national team. Van Persie has a promising future, but he has only played 2 matches for the national team. Van Hooijdonk has played 46 matches for the Dutch national team, but most of these were as a substitute. I believe he has started in the starting line-up only 4 times. I removed the province flags, because I thought they were very confusing (at first I thought WTF?). Even most Dutch people don't know all the province flags, and I don't think knowing which province a player comes from is all that important. I'm sorry about the work that must've gone in it. It hasn't got any purpose to put the flags of the provinces before the name of the player. I suggest that someone deletes them.

I agree, ditch the flags. To show how rediculous this is, I have put the flag of Morocco in front of Bouhlarouz. I think he will have more affinity with that than a stupid province flag!!

[edit] Projected Starting Line-Up and Formation

I replaced Johnny Heitinga for Joris Mathijsen, because Mathijsen is way more likely to play in the line-up than Johnny Heitinga. Mathijsen is left-footed and has been playing way more games in the national team lately than Heitinga.

Holland is the major region in the Netherlands, but is very often used to mean the Netherlands, so it doesn't really matter. Officially, the nation is called the Netherlands.- KingPenguin 02:49, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I was kind of wondering about what the deal with the outfit is. They played in all orange against serbia, yet the official shop shows the blue shorts/blue socks combination. So which is it? jaco♫plane 20:36, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

The official jersey is Orange, White and blue. The FIFA choised to obligate the team to play in all orange to define the teams better on black and white TV's

That was FIFA's idea, to let them play all orange in the group matches. I am not sure about the forecoming matches though. The orange,white,blue home tenue was made official in february of this year. Intangible 18:43, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Olympic medal table

I think the olympic medal table looks a little out of place on this page (in the "Competitive record" section). There is no other information on the page and I sampled a few other national team pages and no one lists Olympic medals (perhaps because I sampled some that have never won any, but that seems doubtful). The reason Cruijff did not play in Argentina was not related to the political situation in Argentina, but instead is believed to be due to him not wanting to be away from his family for long periods. I removed that particular info from the EC 1988 section becaaaauuse it was inserted by a user who has trolled this page before. The only reason he edited the Nazi part into the text was to make the football supporters look bad, which means his intent isn't in accordance with WP:NPOV.

Besides, why should the Dutch football supporters from the eighties be singled out for referencing World War II (how childish it may be) - I know the English and The French supporters have done so as well in the past, yet their pages don't reflect any negative behavior. Depending on manager, Davids, Kluivert and Makaay are still available for the national team. As long as players do not retire from international football themselves, it is prematurely to add them to the past players section. Had to remove Seedorf from the list for the same reason. LOL I'm not that evil my friend ;) The only reason for me to replace them back where they were is because they haven't been in the squad for over a year and are not likely to be called up again. I know Seedorf is now back in the squad and shouldn't be on there, but the others aren't in the squad yet and should be on the list of famous past players as they are no current players. Then we have a difference of semantics, mate. In this context, 'past' and 'former' means pretty much the same to me, thus 'past players' indicates that the players retired from the team. Shouldn't Van Nistelrooy be added to the list if we apply your definition of the word? Razororz 19:10, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
former and past players are indeed sort of the same, retired players is different. In my opinion Van Nistelrooy should be in the list as soon as he drops out of the recent call ups section. It's not a big deal to remove a player from the famous past players when called up again, but he may become forgotten as soon as they are no longer part of the squad but not yet retired.
