"Publieke Omroep" is not a "broadcasting company" -- it is the name ("Public Broadcasting") used by the joint web presence / portal of the Dutch public broadcasting organizations.
I propose to move this article to "Public broadcasting in the Netherlands" (unless anyone has a better title suggestion) and to make appropriate adjustments to the introductory text. -- Picapica 13:00, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

- "Public broadcasting in the Netherlands" has my vote too, but then with 'The' capitalized. The current name ('Netherlands Public Broadcasting') suggests an institution. Especially when the three words are capitalized. Puzzling: because why would a Dutch institution have an English name. 'NPB' or something. Which no Dutchman has ever heard of.
- And the trailing 's' in 'Netherlands' forms another problem. Does it indicate possession, like in the actual Dutch name? (Though then it should be Netherland's). Or rather plurality? Or both? (And in this latter case it should be Netherlands' ?
- (By the way: when the Dutch speak of their country, they use exclusively the singular form: Netherland, or better: 'Nederland').
- Also possible would be 'Dutch public broascasting' -- another way of describing it as a phenomenon, in stead of an office building. I am a Dutchman living now 9 years in English Canada, and have never heard anyone use 'Netherlands' as a Noun adjunct. It is 'Dutch'. Perhaps dusty grammar books could argue 'Netherlands' is also valid, I would still vote against it. Simply because it sounds silly. Tristan Laurillard (talk) 10:18, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

The article as a whole needs tidying up (spelling; grammar; style) -- the (unwikified) history section in particular needs attention. I hope to be able to give the whole thing a "wash and brush up" within the next week, and then rename it. -- Picapica 21:16, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

- I'm currently in the proces of reviving the Wikiproject Television and i'm also Dutch btw :D Good to see i'm not the only one who was starting to get annoyed by the quality of these pages. I started working on just a few TV related pages, but decided that my time atm is better spent on WikiProject TV. However i'm watching most Dutch TV pages, so i might chime in here and there with some contributions. - The DJ 01:57, 25 March 2006 (UTC).
Have made some changes to the intro. However, I'm still not entirely happy with it. As I said above, "Publieke Omroep" is not a "broadcasting company"; but, then again, the term as used in Dutch is much more than just a web/media/PR "brand", as it signifies, too, the public-broadcasting system as a whole as well as the particular role of the NOS as a "co-operation and co-ordination body" (samenwerkings- en coördinatieorgaan) through the Raad van bestuur Publieke Omroep'.
This all needs untangling. As there has been no opposition in the last 12 months to my re-naming proposal, I am going ahead with that. This article is a general one about the structure of public-service broadcasting in the Netherlands and therefore merits a(n English-language) title more closely reflecting that. The various meanings, already mentioned, of the Dutch expression Publieke Omroep should be specifically dealt with in the body of both this article and that on the NOS. -- Picapica 20:21, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

- I agree. Publieke Omroep is a colloquial/marketing term, while the NOS is, by law, instituted as national public broadcaster. There are other provisions for regional and local public broadcasters. Alas, the Mediawet seems not to be avail in English. Intangible 17:55, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

What about a section listing former organisations (such as VOO) which are no longer part of the Public broadcasting system also can we have a list of the dates on which each organisation joined thr system and the process wherby a new organisation becomes entitled to airtime. 80.229.222.48 19:48, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah sure why not. I personally haven't gone into this because I'm just too young to remember that stuff, and I haven't been able to find a good online source for those kinds of things. If you know how this used to be then go right ahead.
