The Nernst-Planck equation describes the flux of ions through a diffusive membrane under the influence of both an ionic concentration gradient (X) and electric potential (V).
It is defined :

Where D is a set of constants related to scaling the concentration gradient (X) and P is a set of constants related to scaling the potential (V) across the diffusive membrane.
