This page demonstrates meta-templates, and how they can be used to standardize the display of population statistics in various ways.

Since there is a controversy over the server impact of meta-templates like this, no decision has been made yet if they should be used for the Japan cities or not. It will be discussed soon.

The first four lines show

1. Population and Date the population was updated in the main template
2. Population with no other info
3. Population with a small as of Date for info boxes, etc
4. Population with a normal-sized as of Date for text paragraphs.

Everything after the first four lines is filler; but, the idea should be clear.

• City1 is 1000 Template:JCensusShowDate
• City1 is 1000
• City2 is 1020 as of June 6, 1900
• City2 is 1020 as of June 6, 1900
• City2 without the date is 1020
• City3 is 3333000
• City4 is 400
• City5 is 5,600,000

The population of Sendai is 1,028,214 as of September 1, 2005

The population of Higashi Matsushima is 43,281 as of October 1, 2004.
