Neil Nightingale

Neil Nightingale has been Head of the BBC Natural History Unit since February 2003.

Since that time the Unit has produced a rich and diverse variety of natural history programmes, maintaining the BBC's reputation for definitive and groundbreaking documentaries that inform and entertain audiences. New output from the Natural History Unit includes Wild Down Under and Jungle, and in 2002 the biggest live broadcast of British wildlife was attempted in Wild In Your Garden.

Graduating with a first class degree in Zoology from Oxford University, Neil demonstrated an early passion for the natural world and the species that inhabit our planet.

After working as a freelance science journalist for New Scientist, he joined the BBC in 1983 gaining experience as a researcher and assistant producer in wildlife, news, current affairs, regional programmes, science and education.

In 1995 Neil took on the role of Editor for The Natural World. Under Neil's leadership, The Natural World's programmes won the top award at every major international wildlife film festival.^{[citation needed]}
