[edit] Why this category

It seems useful to have an overview of pages dealing with neighbo(ur)hoods of Istanbul. At this moment many such pages have been categorized as Category:Districts of Istanbul. However, the notion of district is well defined, an exhaustive list is given in Template:Districts of Istanbul, and many pages currently categorized as an Istanbul district describe some lesser entity.

It might be possible to identify "neighbourhood" with the official notion of mahalle, but personally I don't care; anything notable that is being thought of as a neighbourhood by a reasonable number of people should qualify, for all I care. But, of course, anyone with strong feelings about the issue is welcome to re-categorize, or sub-categorize, or whatever. Lambiam^Talk 14:07, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
