[edit] History

The Nederlander Organization was founded by David T. Nederlander of Detroit in 1912 with the purchase of a 99-year lease on the Detroit Opera House[1]. They are now into their third generation of theater development, ownership, management and production.

Generally credited with creating the outdoor amphitheater concept as it is known today, the Nederlanders developed a unique ability to maintain a variety booking approach that responded to varied community interests.

Under the guidance of its chairman, James M. Nederlander, these policies have included a significant effort to produce and present cultural attractions such as the Bolshoi Ballet, the Moiseyev Ballet, the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, the Georgian State Dance Company, Ballet Folklorico, the Peking Opera and local symphonies. The current president is James L. Nederlander.
