I'm very sceptical about the caption given to this image.
"Execution of Russian civilians by a shot in the back of the head, carried out with a certain grim intensity, even relish. Nazi indoctrination was widely held accountable for the younger officers' obeying of criminal orders, whi"
This site provides a far more likely caption[1] "Execution of Soviet POWs, 1942 (Source: "The Eastern Front in Photographs", by John Erickson)" It provides data instead of hyperbole, it states that it is the year 1942, and it states that the killed are not civilians but POWs.
And also, considering the captions the site is able to provide for the other images it hosts, both in detail and gruesomeness, I hold it likely that the linked site has the real caption, and that the one used for this commons upload is not the original caption.--Stor stark7 Speak 01:01, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
