Talk:Naval Infantry (Russia)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shouldn't this article be moved to Russian Naval Infantry? They're far better known by that name. -- Necrothesp 03:15, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- Is there sources that would comply with above statement? Just for the sake of accuracy, for I am, being the Russian would be all for “Naval Infantry” as the main article entry. It is a proud branch of our military with specificly sounding name, but we ought to think about conformity. But, as I say, if it is indeed know as such, I’d be the first in line to move it to the proper name.
- Interesting sidenote: in 1716, Peter the Great instituted the rank of “marine guard” (Russian: гардемарин, from French: garde-marine). It was exactly that — rank, not the branch of military. It was given to cadets of naval schools, when they were ready to leave classrooms for on-the-ship training, after completion of which they were given officer’s ranks. That rank changed over time and was eventually abolished after Revolution of 1917. theUg 02:26, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
