What does this article have to do with The Stolen Generation of Australia ? Were Maori children kidnapped to be sent to native schools?

could someone provide more infomartion on this article, relating why it should be linked to from cultural genocide, or opt for it to be in a different catergory?

It could be argued that the native schools system was an example of cultural genocide as it discouraged the Maori language and taught European culture at the expense of Maori culture. I think the term is a bit overblown in this context, and some people have argued that having a seperate system was a good thing as it allowed schools to teach Maori as Maori rather than marginalising them as a minority in ordinary schools. At some point I would like to put something about the debate on this page. In the mean time I think the link should probably stay because the schools do broadly fit under the definition on the cultural genocide page. And no, Maori children were not kidnapped to be sent to the schools, so I will remove the stolen generation link. --Helenalex 00:20, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
