Talk:National Bike Registry
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] NPOV
This article reads like and advert for the NBR. Statement about how owners
"In contrast, every time a police officer has recovered a bicycle that was in the National Bike Registry database, it has been returned to the owner."
appear unverifiable. And sections like
"Along with a helmet and a good lock, bike registration proves invaluable and is recommended for ultimate bike protection. While owners should always lock their bikes, simply locking the bike is not enough! NBR receives stolen reports and has returned bikes where the thief cut the lock."
seem un-encyclopedic. Plus, I don't see one criticism of the program (say cost, effectivness, etc). Maybe none exist, but this certainly seems like an effort to tell people why they should use this program.Mbisanz 18:20, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree, this isn't really looking too well, I'll dabble at this article over the next few days, and see if I can tone it down a bit. --The Listener 19:47, 8 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheListener (talk • contribs)
Thank you for your feedback and edits. Very much appreciated. I've edited the first sentence referenced above to
"In contrast, every time a police officer recovers a bicycle that has been entered in a database, it can be identified and returned to the owner."
to better explain the mechanism and benefits of a bicycle registry.
The article tries to explain bike registration and the need for such if an owner wants to know how to protect their bike. The benefits of a bike registry program are undisputed. Just ask your local police department or university police. Chances are they have a local bike registry program to help return stolen bikes in their community. Police recommeds that owners register their bikes. If a bike is entered into a local or better yet a national database that police taps into, chances stolen bikes will be identified and returned increase significantly. Hope this throws more light and helps resolve the dispute. 216.164.99.50 18:54, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
