Natural cleaning product

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Natural cleaning products are substances used to clean, deodorize, and/or disinfect which have natural substances as their active ingredients. In some cases, natural cleaning products may be less damaging to the environment and safer for humans and pets than conventional cleaning products. Sales of natural cleaning products increased 19 percent to more than $36 million between July 2002 and July 2003, according to SPINS, a San Francisco-based marketing research and consulting firm.

A growing number of manufacturers, for example Ecover, are offering consumers a variety of natural cleaning products. These products may be used for regular hand cleaning, as well as in devices like dishwashers. Effective natural cleaning products can also be made from common household ingredients [1], such as:

[edit] Advantages

The exclusive use of natural cleaning products allows to lower the needed inputs required for water purification. Especially in areas where small-scale, individual systems need to be used to purify the water. This allows for a substantial decrease in the cost and size of the installation. Also, in certain cases, it allows the system to be discarded completely, as regular water diversion may result to suffice instead. As an added advantage, nutrient recycling in certain greywater systems may be increased, allowing gains for domestic food production systems, for example permaculture systems, used at home.
