National Railway Equipment Company

National Railway Equipment Company (AAR reporting marks NREX) (NREC) is a railroad equipment rebuilding and leasing company, headquartered in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. NREC sells rebuilt locomotives to railroad companies worldwide, with an emphasis on the North American market.

On February 9, 2006, NRE announced a contract to deliver 60 environmentally friendly locomotives to the Union Pacific Railroad.[1] This order is still being delivered as of 2007.
