National Map

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Map is an ongoing mapping project by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) to digitize thematic mapping. The National Map will contain various layers of data that can be integrated together, with data from multiple levels from the local to the national government. The USGS in part utilizes updated information from The National Map Corps, a citizen volunteer group using GPS receivers.

The USGS will provide relief layers and additional Landsat imagery to accompany the other data levels. The Internet interface is being designed for ease of use and overall functionality.
