The National Institute of Business Management (also know as NIBM) is a Sri Lankan business school founded in 1968 under the responsibility of the Ministry of Industries and Scientific Affairs (Sri Lanka)[citation needed]. It is a collaboration with the UNDP, with the ILO functioning as the executing agency. On June 1, 1976, the Institute was incorporated as the National Institute of Business Management. In May 2004 the responsibilities in the Sri Lankan government changed, and the NIBM now is accountable to the Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational and Technical Education (Sri Lanka).[citation needed]

The Institute gives the following in the NIBM (amendment) Act of 1991[citation needed] as following:
- To provide Business Management Education and Training.
- To provide Management Consultancy and Advisory Services.
- To facilitate improvement of Productivity.

[edit] The Management Information Systems Division
The Management Information Systems (MIS) Division handles Computer Training, which consists basically of two Diploma programs, a Degree program and several Certificate level programs. The major Computer programs of the NIBM consists of a One-year Diploma in Computer System Design and a two-year program leading to a Higher Diploma in Computer Based Information Systems. A B.Sc. degree program was commenced in 1996 in collaboration with University College Dublin (UCD) at the National University of Ireland.
These programs have gained wide acceptance by the general public and due to its long experience, the NIBM is recognized as the pioneer computer training institute in the country.[citation needed]

- Construction of a new three story building to accommodate to a much larger student population is currently under way. This project is estimated to take nine months, after completion it will be used to create a much pleasanter environment for students.
