National Foundation for Women Legislators

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) is a non-profit organization founded nearly seven decades ago in the United States, dedicated to increasing the number of women in state legislative offices throughout the U.S. and its territories. The organization also assists incumbent women legislators to be effective public officials and rise in the leadership ranks of their respective legislatures.

NFWL holds an annual conference during the early fall, except in election years, when the annual conference is held after the presidential election as part of a "healing process". The organization's 69th annual conference was held in Louisville, Kentucky, from October 11 to October 15, 2007. The 70th annual conference will be held in November 2008 in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico.

The NFWL elects its leadership from among the ranks of the nation's women state legislators. Its Executive President is Robin Read.
