The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) is the Brazilian civil aviation authority and it was created in 2006. ANAC means "Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil" in Portuguese. The headquarters are in Brasilia City, in the center of the country and around 570 miles from Rio de Janeiro and 540 miles from Sao Paulo City, the most relevant Brazilian economical region.
The Agency raised from the former Department of Civil Aviation (DAC) and the Civil Aviation Certification Division (Aeronautical Technical Center - CTA), the Brazilian aircraft certification authority. In Brazil, ANAC is responsible for regulating safety and security matters related to civil aircraft and its components, personnel licensing, operations and aerodromes.
