Nathamuni
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nathamuni was a Vaishnava scholar who founded the Sri Vaishnava tradition. According to Sri Vaishnava tradition Nathamuni was born at Veera Narayana Puram near Kaatumannar Koil. It is believed that his other names were Sadamarsana Kula Tilakar and Sottai Kulathtu Arasar. He is notable for having collected the 4,000 hymns of the Alvars. He taught these hymns to his two nephews at Srirangam, where he was a temple administrator. He is thought to be the origin of Araiyar sevai. He codified the hymns of the Alvars in the Tamil language as the Divya Prabandha and introduced them into the temple service.[1][2][3] Yamunacharya, the next Sri Vaishnava acharya, is his grandson.[4] [5]
