Sankara Begins His Commentary On Kathopanisad With A Reverential Salutation To Both Yam And Nachiket:

Om Namo Bhagavate Vaivasvataya Mrtyave BrahmavidyacAryaya , Naciketase Ca --

“Om ! Salutation To The Lord Of Death, The Blessed One, The Son Of Vivasvat, And The Teacher Of Brahmavidya (The Science Of Being In Supreme Consciousness) As Also To Nachiket.”

Sankar at the age of 6 visited a play held on Nachiket in his village. He got so impressed by the character of Nachiket, that he resolved that if Nachiket can get Brahmavidya so can he. He took sanyas at age of 6 and rest is history.

Adi Sankaracharya is recognised by one and all as Jagadguru not only on account of his achievements in spiritual experience, but also because of his ability to advance convincing reasons to questioning intellects, give out fervid songs to emotional minds, and show abundant love to throbbing hearts. We have in Sankar a staunch upholder of Sanatan dharma, an exemplary saint of pious determination, a matchless savant of extensive erudition,an accomplished mystic of high yogic powers, a great thinker of consummate intellect, an inspired champion of Sanatan Dharma, and the first of its vigorous missionaries. So we can see that the inspiration for Sankaracharya was only Nachiket
