[edit] Ceremonies

Order of the Arrow Ceremonies are Ceremonies that give out awards, honors, and ranks. A OA ceremony has four people in it, Allowat Sakima(Chief), Meteu(medicine man/story teller), Nutiket(gaurd), and Kichkinet(guide). These people are dressed in Native American Regalia. This usually consists of leggings, breech clout, shirt, and a belt and leg ties. Often people who really get into ceremonies have more "accesories" such as pouches, mocosins, and headresses.

To be inducted in the OA(Order of the Arrow) you must get tapped out. This happens by your Troop voting on you and then you must be at camp. On wednesday night(family night) everyone goes to the fire bowl to watch the Call out Ceremony. What happens in the Ceremony is the names of the Ordeal Canidets are called and they end up walking away to go to Pre-Ordeal Ceremony. This is where they are given there tasks for the next day and sent away to sleep alone for the night in the woods. The next day they spend there time in service for the camp. This can include painting, cleaning, building, or anything else the camp needs done. During the day they are given very little food usually consisting of 2 muffins. When they are done they go back with there troops (while still not talking) and eat dinner with them. Afterward they go to the Ceremony Ground for the Ordeal Ceremony. Here all that have made it are declared Ordeal Members.

For Ordeal members that want to move on farther they may want to get Brotherhood membership. You can do this a year after ordeal and you need to answer questions and write a paper on what u've done in boy scouting since your ordeal. Then you will go after dinner to the Brotherhood Ceremony and here you will be tested. All who pass without flinching will be declared Brotherhood members.

For Vigil Canidates there is also a continuing ceremony. Vigil is not a rank, but an honor. You are nominated it by a fellow brother in the oa then all the vigils vote on who may become one. When you are a Canidate you have a mentor and a period for a few months of converstions and time to see if you may have this honor.

Chapters(divisions in the Lodge) usually will have Cub Ceremonies for Webloscouts crossing into boy scouting. This gives the cubs a cool expierience and gets people into ceremonies.

The Ceremony teams are usually chosen by who wants to participate and auditions. For summers usually more want the part then availible openings so an audition is usually held. The Ceremonialists during the summer tend to do it year round at Conclaves, Winter Banquet, and Cub Ceremonies.
