Nacchatar Singh Jhajj

Nacchatar Singh Jhajj was born on 2nd May 1917 in village Bowani, near Doraha, District Ludhiana, Punjab. He was married to Sukhdev Kaur in 1940. In March 1942 when the I.N.A (Indian National Army) was formed he was among the first few people who joined the I.N.A. He joined the I.N.A as a Lieutenant. In January 1943 he headed to Japan on the order of the high command of the command. At the time of the second world war he travelled various countries including Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. In May 1943 he was arrested by the British troops and he spent 5 years in a jail in Singapore. And after the Indian independence he returned to India to his family. His wife was very happy to see him after 5 years because they had all lost hope that he will come back one day. After that he was blessed with two sons. In 1951 he stepped into the transport business and founded Khanda Roadways which was the leading transport company of India in the 1979-80's era. He was awarded the Tamar Patar when Indira Gandhi become the prime-minister of India. He passed away on 4th February 1981.
