GI Barely Legal (2008) was the first annual Barely Legal professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by Global Impact. It will place on June 1, 2008 at Universal Studios in Hollywood, California. The official theme song was "Welcome to the Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance. The tagline for the event was "There's a First Time for Everything." Every single match is held under Extreme Rules.
[edit] Background
The main feud heading into Barely Legal is between John Cena, Batista, Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, Rey Mysterio and CM Punk over the GI Championship. On the May 13 edition of Global Impact, Cena, Mysterio and Batista defeated Angle, Joe and Punk. After the match, Joe attacked Cena from behind with a steel chair. Then Vince McMahon came out to the stage and announced an Elimination Chamber for Barely Legal.
The secondary main feud heading into the PPV is between Team McMahon (John Morrison, Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder, Rob Van Dam and Kane) and Team Cornette (Kaz , Black Reign, Relliʞ, Consequences Creed and Matt Morgan). On the May 6 adition of Global Impact, Vince McMahon challenged Jim Cornette to a match but the challenge was rejected, with McMahon stating that he had a damaged pelvis and broken coccyx that would prevent him from competing. They came up with another match, where the stipulations for the match were that they each had to choose 5 representatives to wrestle for them and the loser would have to leave Globel Impact.
The third main feud heading into Barely Legal between The Undertaker Rhino. On the May 6 editinon of GI, Jim Cornette said that Rhino is invincible and no one can beat him. After defeating Balls Mahoney, the lights went out and the Undertaker appeared and applied the Gogoplata to Rhino. The next week, during the Undertaker's match against Abyss, Rhino ran to the ring and Gored Undertaker.
Another feud heading into the PPV is between Jeff Hardy and Shelton Benjamin. On the 6 edition of GI, Benjamin defeated Jay Lethal and Hardy defeated Montel Vontavious Porter to earn a World Heavyweight Championship match. The next week, Hardy pinned Benjamin to choose which match they would compete in and chose a Falls Count Anywhere match.
