Category talk:Mysteries

I think this category is underused. There are subcategories for many types of mysteries, but there is nothing wrong with having one wide category for the most well-known mysteries of the world. I suggest as criteria for inclusion that an item really does have some "mysterious content" (as opposed to the Vivia Thomas folktale, for example, which was previously included), that it is a popular mystery, and that a mystery is what is mostly associated with it. The latter would exclude for example the Giza Pyramids and Area 51. Even though they are associated with mysteries to some, it seems they have plenty of mainstream "non-mysterious" associations. The mysteries might for example be of a criminal, a supernatural, or an "abnormal" nature, so Jack The Ripper, the Bermuda Triangle, and Phantom cats all qualify. (Personally I'm skeptical toward whether The Flying Dutchman should be considered a "mystery" precisely; I kind of doubt that there is anyone today who believes that it really exists.) I have decided to include relevant categories on this page as well, such as Ghosts and Paranormal. At some point maybe we just want to make this a super-category of those. Kronocide 16:51, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
The Double Slit Experiment really shouldn't be on this page; it's not a paranormal mystery and the physics behind it are well understood, despite the weirdness of some quantum mechanics.
