[edit] Project Runway
Knight is best known as being a contestant on the third season of the Bravo network reality television series Project Runway. Mychael was an applicant for the second season of Project Runway, but was not chosen.[1][2]
Mychael kissed with Heidi in a group with fellow contestant and group leader for the episode, Angela. Angela won the episode's challenge which was to create a design that would be sellable to Macy's. The winning group's design was to be displayed in Macy's window and be sold as part of INC (International Concepts), Macy's largest private label brand.
In Episode 5, Knight designed the week's winning outfit. In a week where the models both chose their designers, as well as a Fashion Icon for whom their designer must create a look, Knight created an outfit modeled after actress Pam Grier. He earned the right to have his garment, as well as the model he was paired with, be featured in a TRESemmé advertisement for ELLE magazine.[1]
In Episode 6, Knight won his 2nd consecutive challenge when he created a design which involved the use of materials taken from a recycling plant in northern New Jersey.[3]
Knight made it to the final runway show (with three other contestants) during Fashion Week in New York. He was chosen by over 10 million viewers to be the "Viewers' Favorite Designer", he received $10,000 dollars for this title. He did not win, but gained a great deal of attention from his appearance on the show.[1][4][5]
He is reportedly dating R&B singer Brandy, who made an appearance on the season finale, where she cited Mychael's collection as one of her favorites. He is also working as an on-screen personality doing interviews for celebrity fashion site SeenON.com and has partnered with Starbucks to create a limited run of customizable t-shirts.[6][7][5][8]
He is currently a self-employed fashion designer and stylist who has made clothes for celebrities like Ciara, Free (former host of BET's 106 & Park), and Queen Latifah. He was also a featured designer on BET's Rip the Runway. BET's Rip the Runway is a televised special aired on BET once a year which combines musical entertainment with the modeling of popular fashion collections[9]. He was also featured on BET when he helped former America's Next Top Model contestant, Toccara Jones, talk about fashion "do's" and "don'ts" on the television show BET's The Black Carpet.
Most recently, Knight returned to Project Runway to present Christian Siriano with season four's Fan Favorite award. When asked what he did with his check, he told Heidi he invested it in a fragrance that he is coming out with.
