Myachi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Myachi, pronounced mee-ah-chee, is a sand filled handsack, about 3 x 1.5 inches (10 x 4 cm) in size. The handsack is tossed around on the back of the hand in any number of ways. Any surface of the body can be used, except for the palms. The point of the game is to toss the sack on the back of your hand without letting it hit the ground. Games include big air, seeing who can catch the highest toss, and best trick, seeing who can perform the best tricks with the handsack. Tricks include catching the sack on your head or foot, tossing under the leg or behind the back, or moving your hand around the sack while it's in the air.

Here are some basic rules for the Hand Sack

1. Start with the Hand Sack on the back of your hand and toss it.

2. No palms allowed, unless to prevent loss or damage.

3. Include everyone, because anyone can play.

4. Don't hit or bat the Hand Sack

Here are some basic tricks that you can do with a myachi.

Footstalls/kicks: Kick and catch the Myachi with your feet. Then, get it back to your hands, and catch it.

Skate tricks: Turn your Myachi into a mini skate deck and ride a "half-pipe". Swing your arm in an arc motion and pull off handstands, kick flips, pop shove-its, 900ºs, and more.

Street Surfing: While cruising with your friends, try tossing your Myachi off of walls and buildings.

Superhero Tricks(Spiderman, Superman, Wolverine, Daredevil, and Hulk): Catch the myachi based on a superhero symbol. On your wrist with the spidey web signal, between your fists like the hulk, etc.

There are a lot of different tricks besides this too so this is just to give you an idea.

[edit] Origin

Myachi has its roots at Vanderbilt University where Steve Ochs tossed a lighter around on the back of his hand with friends. Eventually Ochs decided to stitch an old wallet around the lighter and the first Myachi was born. After graduating he put Myachi aside to work as a stock broker. He quickly worked up to a six digit salary, although that didn't make him happy. So in 1997, at the age of 25 he quit his job. He researched all of the past phenomenon from the Frisbee to the Yo-yo. Soon he had designed and bought fabric for the Myachi. 10,000 handmade Myachis later and countless hours on a friend’s sewing machine, Ochs and myachi was well on their way to success.
