HAYA TRIBE THE GENEROUS ONE IN TANZANIA

This is one of the tanzanian tribes found in the Lake Zone of Lake victoria. It is the reagion neared by three independent Countries namely Uganda, United republic of Rwanda and Burundi.

People of the region are very generous. The Haya people cultivate banana, cassava, tomatoes, beans and other many pennerial crops such as coffee, sugarcane, tea. The Region is Ever green all the period. Their main food is banana typically, matoke, and beans. They have their local drinks called Omulamba, just a duice maid from ripe banana.

when this Omulamba is mixed with millet flower for about 2 days, it changes and become hard drink called Olubisi. it is their most wanted drink offered to visitors as the way of showing pleasure. After this hard drink has been kept for about four to seven days, and has turned sour, they destill it into Enkonyagi. this is purely like Konyagi, but the difference is on the way of making it. the first props of this drink is very sour and it is called Mbandule. just a drop of it makes one totally drankard. This type of konyagi and mbandule is still at rehabilitation by the government just to make it with an acceptable standard to the user.

The people of this area are famous eaters of Moths called Ensenene. Nsenene normally flood in Mid sept to mid Dec. at that time all people leave the activities and go to open spaces to catch them. then they remove their wing, legs,and roast them. they are very delicious, full of fat. they use them also as a dowry. if a guest comes they offer him some as the way of appreciation. other insects made by these people are white ants.

The Haya people grow coffee. They have various use of such coffee. they use leaves of coffee as making tea. they boil with water and automatically cgange the color to be like that of tea leaves. They use leaves also as medicine when one does not feel well. they use thir trees as woods. they use unriped seeds of coffee as Akamwani, which means nuts. they harvest some of the unriped crop, and cook it with special tree leave known as Akachumba mwani, after that, when the crops are ready, they dry it using smoke. then they take some as something to masticate particularly the old people. a respectable person is he who has nuts. when the guest comes they give some to him. tyey can keep nuts for a year and more. When the coffee is ripe, then ather normal processesThe hy follow.

The Haya people have many water resources, such as Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa, lake Ikimba, and lake Burigi. They have many sources of Rivers, nile River begins in this region but it is locally known as Mto Kagera, also there is Mto Ngono. people of this region eat much fish particularly Sato. it is also a good area for harnesting Hydro electric Power.

The people of this are have special drumming such as Akasimbo and Omutolo. these have lasted long since the time of nyarubanja system in the 17th and 18th century.

Naming system among the haya reflects an occasion or meaning or expectation. for example Mushobozi means the mighty, the judge, the one who solves the problems. Hence god is the judge, or the might. this might be the reason why most Mushobozi including the writer prefer to take law.

Education among the Haya has no disputes. they prefer education than anything else. that is why they are known by other tribe members as nshomile which means Nimesoma. Education in this are begun with the arrival of colonoalists and remained subsisting todate.
