Music at Plush

Music at Plush was founded 13 years ago by William Lacey and Music Director, Adrian Brendel. Since then it has developed into a unique series of classical concerts with a passionate following. Concerts take place every summer in the former St. John the Baptist Church, restored from dereliction in 1992 and transformed into a performance hall with pews intact. The acoustics are sublime, and ideal for both ensemble music and live recordings. Plush is a beautiful village in Dorset, England, 25 minutes drive from Dorchester.

The musicians live and rehearse in the manor house nearby, the home of Alfred Brendel, one of the most distinguished classical pianists of the second half of the 20th century. In this concentrated and inspiring environment they can immerse themselves in works with time. Over the past decade the music of some 80 composers have been performed by over 100 musicians from around the world.

The festival is dedicated to showcasing new music, for solo to larger ensemble works. By placing Bach with Birtwistle, or the more synthetic combination of Kurtag, Bartok and Beethoven, our programmes reveal a passion for the classic and modern repertoire alike.
