Set up in 2001, the museum is the newest government run museum in the National Museum of Ireland group of museums, and the only one of these museums outside of Dublin[1]. The museum exhibits the rural way of life of the Irish people between 1850 and 1950. The Museum is located on the grounds of Turlough Park House, near Turlough, Castlebar. There are displays on the home, the natural environment, communities and forces for change.
