Talk:Municipalities of Baja California
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Can this be explained in a little more detail how a municipality (for example Mexicali) can stretch over 120 miles to include a town like San Felipe?? It helps us Gringos.
- shrug. BC and BCS are the two states with the lowest number of municipalities (along with Q.Roo, another late statehood-er). I suppose historically the area was so remote and sparsely populated that there was no justification for breaking it up into additional smaller municipalities (compare the number and the size of the counties in, eg, Nevada or New Mexico). But, yeah, I rather suspect that the situation in BC didn't keep up with demographic growth over the past 50 or 70 years. Still, could be worse; could be Oaxaca. –Hajor 04:03, 12 May 2005 (UTC)
- A Mexican municipality is similar to a US county. The municipality of Mexicali has an area of 14,000 sq Km. JC 12:50, 15 March 2007 (PST)
