Ayatollah Muhammad Asif Muhsini (Sheik Muhsini) is the founder of the Islamic Movement of Afghanistan (Harakat-I Islami-yi Afghanistan). Born in 1935 in Kandahar to a Shia Tajik family, he studied in Najaf, Iraq and became an Ayatollah.
He founded Harakat-I Islami-yi Afghanistan in 1978. The group later played a large role in the 1980 rebellion against the communist regime and fought in the Afghan Northern Alliance (United Front) against the Taliban.
Ayatollah Muhsini has written more than 20 books about Islam.
