Biamal History
The Biamaal ( Salebban Gaadsan, Ismiin, Sacad and dabruube) are Somali ethnic group of about 2 million people who live mainly in provinces of lower Shabelle, lower Jubba, Bakool and Gedo. large numbers of Biamaal also live in Kenya and Ethiopia. They speak somali language, which is Hamatic; more specifically, similar to the Arabic. The Kingdom of Biimaal played a major role in Somali History in 18th and 19th centuries. Under Italian colony, Biimaal people opposed against the occupation of Italian regime, and severely fought against them. During that time, thousands of Biimal warriors lost their lives to stop the invaders to reach somali soil. Today they are the most numerous ethnic group in Somalia, settling the most populated area from Mogadishu to kismayo as well as Gedo and Bakool region. The Biimaal Kingdom built large castles in the cost of Benadir, lower shabelle and juba to protect somali shores and for trading strategy. In 1900-1907, the Italian leaders tried many times to negotiate a land deal with Bimal king. In 1905 about 2000 Bimalis and 1000 Italian soldiers were killed when they attempted to destroy these obstacles against Italian interests which also caused many Italian lives. Though many biimalis armies got killed, but they still insisted to protect Somali shore. After long bloody battles, the Italian leader sleeked alliance with other Somali tribes which finally destroyed Bimalis forces. However, they are not armed because of the civilization of these great people, avoiding to involve any somali's civil war .
Origins
The Biimaal was originally a major clan in what is today founded in lower Shabelle, lower Jubba, Bakool and Gedo, . 1400-1900 Biimaal kingdoms were trading with Arabs, particularly Omanian and Yemenis. The Biimaal was the most powerful tribe in east africa from 1400-1920.
Gaadsan (or Gadsan) is one of the subclan of Biimal who is mainly live in Ethiopia, and is one of the largest tribes of somali ethiopia . They mainly reside three countries: Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya. In Ethiopia Gaadsan clans reside three districts : the Liban district (Jarrati, Waladaya, Doolow and Guuredhamole), Godey district (Iimey and Boola), and Gashamo district (Nusdariiq, somali Marsin, Kabtinuur and Qabridhare). There is also other large group of Gaadsan, known as Gaadsan-Qalaawileey in Shabelle and Jubba regions, living with other Biimals group. In Kenya there is a third division of Gaadsan, known as Gaadsan-Kenya, found in many cities such as Bangal, Garseeni, and Hoolla.
The Daarood tribes had migrated down to lower jubba in mid 19 century to occupy the land of biimaal who was dismantled by the colonial during the long time war. The previous presidents Mohamed siad Barre from Darood clan had given them a chance to dominate and torture the local people of biimaal. After 1991, the Habargidir clan had also made a master plan to settlle and claim the lower shabelle region, used by force displacement, looted farms of the Biimaal people, displaced and killed thausands of the biimaal locals.
