I hardly see the point of the "The MSM-04 Acguy is a piece of fictional equipment from the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam" line at top when the edit by 205.152.138.58 was simple. Not to mention it makes it more streamline with all the other mobile suit pages out there. User-Name 22:04, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

If they don't have the same sort of summary, then they're out of keeping with Wikipedia style, and need to be corrected. (The bolding of the second mention of the name, though, is unnecessary and deprecated.) Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:10, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

No room for compromising? I hate that tag as much as the other guy but I'll at least won't be a problem about it. I just want to move the bold to where it says MSM-04 Acguy in the artcle. A simple compromise is all I ask.

Wikipedia doesn't have firm rules I'm placing this in my defense Mel Etits. I actually would like to see other people's opinion on this, as well. I'd like yours too before making a change. I'm going to try to be reasonable this time around and I hope to see you are too. Can you please send me something that says that I have to have this in this article. 1. Well, first it's not you who has to have it, as it's not your article; all articles are everyone's and no-one's. 2. The place to look is the Guide to layout, where you'll read:

"The subject of the article should be mentioned in bold text (subject) at a natural place in the first sentence, or at least the first paragraph."
"If the article is long enough to contain several paragraphs, the first paragraph should be short and to the point, with a clear explanation of what the subject of the page is."

Where a subject is fictional, it seems to me that that fact, together with the name of the subject, should be right at the beginning. 3. I must admit that I can't see what your, presumably aesthetic, objection is. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:49, 7 May 2005 (UTC)

Seems to me that I put it in the first sentence and in the first paragraph. I also had defined that it was from Mobile Suit Gundam and that Gundam is also an anime (with links to direct a person to what MSG is and what an anime is). User-Name 00:17, 8 May 2005 (UTC)
Also what I was trying to say is that this tip is suggested, not enforced. "Should" and "must" are two different words with two different meanings.
  1. The name can go in lots of places, but it's only bolded on its first appearance.
  2. You still haven't said what you find unacceptable about the current state of the article; if you =feel really strongly about it, you could appeal to RfC — though, to be honest, that can often generate more heat than light. Still, in this case, where there's nothing controversial about the article (except, perhaps, its existence), it might be OK.
  3. You're trying to read too much into the language used. When I tell my students that they should give references for all quotations, and that they should provide separate bibliographies for their essays, I don't think of that as a suggestion — as they find out if they don't do it. The same applies to notices in public gardens saying "dogs should be kept on leads on all times". Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:26, 8 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] A thought

Should there be a mention of the popularity of the Acguy as a base for parody and its cult popularity? [Cult meaning in this case the rather popularity of a rather unknown film (i.e. The films Rocky Horror Picture Show and UHF)]

I certainly think there should be, it's fairly large
