The Novocastrian Philosophers' Club (http://www.novocastrianphilosophersclub.co.uk) was founded in 1794 and is Registered Philosophical Society no:484. The Club is based at the The Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle Upon Tyne, and has close links with the North East Mining Institute. The Club has been accused of being shrouded in myth and noteriety since its establishment. Suspected (in the past) of action with strong ulterior motives, the Club has recently embarked on a process of opening themselves to the public. The Club awards grants for international travel, and has funded numerous famous explorations including Captain Deasy's Daring Drive (see http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/title/486630) ascending and descending the mountain railway from Caux to Rochers de Naye, Switzerland, in a Martini motor car. Novocastrian Philosophers have been at the forefront of informal education, with some of their more eccentric members attempting to teach animals to write. The Club publishes research through the Novocastrian Philosophers' Press.
