User talk:Msaloff
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bonjour M. Coste,
I am afraid that when you return to Wikipedia, your newly written entry Michel Saloff Coste may already be deleted because it was identified by a translator at this page as a vanity page. I just wanted to explain what that means. There is a Wikipedia page called Wikipedia:Vanity guidelines which expresses the consensus of the community that we should not author pages about ourselves. Thus, as a professor at the Weatherhead School of Management who does not yet have a biographical entry in the Wikipedia, I must wait until someone else begins a page about me, rather than writing one myself. (Some of my colleagues already have Wikipedia entries -- David Cooperrider, for instance.)
Vanity alone is not a reason for deleting a new page from Wikipedia, but importance must be demonstrated. It also helps if you follow guidelines for Wikipedia formatting, found in the Wikipedia:Guide to layout.
I will do some formatting edits on your page, but if it is deleted, I hope you will not be discouraged. You can still write about topics you consider important, or edit pages that have already been created to make them more encyclopedic. Mamawrites 07:27, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
