[edit] Andrew Boysen Deletion tag

Hey there. Why should Andrew Boysen by deleted? Wikipedia:Notability (music) states that if a composer "has written a song or composition which has won (or in some cases been given a second or other place) in a major music competition not established expressly for newcomers" that it should be deemed notable. In the article it states that Andrew Boysen "has twice won the Claude T. Smith Memorial Band Composition Contest: the first time in 1991 for “I Am” and again in 1994 for “Ovations”. He won the University of Iowa Honors Composition Prize in 1991 and in 2000 won the International Horn Society Composition Contest." Ben Tibbetts 22:53, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about the slight delay on this response. Your research is great. However, I don't see why the nature of a competition itself would keep it from being important within the musical world. As a composer myself I have definately seen international contests specifically rotating around choral, chamber, or solo music. Sometimes they're kind of silly ("write a concerto for the kazoo with the orchestra") while other times they're in memorium of a great composer or artist who played an instrument very well. Writing for piano is a pretty common one. Maybe to say that these competitions aren't 'major' requires an examination of what that word really means. Ben Tibbetts 18:35, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
