[edit] Notability of Ed Gauthier

A tag has been placed on Ed Gauthier requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 11:34, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

You asked,

Why do you think Ed Gauthier should be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. MrsEdweirdo 11:41, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Pardon me, but the only notability assertions I see in the article are not valid per Wikipedia standards. All of them sound like "He is more notable than whoever reads this," or "He is notable because I said so," or "He thinks of himself as notable." --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 11:51, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

You asked,

Okay. What should I add to demonstrate ironclad notability? His website get 10,000 views and there's sources and he likes dogs. MrsEdweirdo 12:00, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Basically, you cannot demostrate notability of someone who does not have any. The number of views on his Website is basically irrelevant, since we cannot break down who viewed it. Could be search engine spiders, could be multiple views by the same person, etc. As for the fact he likes dogs, you certainly do not believe anyone would see the relevance of that.

But if you can show an independent, reliable, secondary source (that is, not associated in any way with Mr. Gauthier) that featured an article on him, that would be good enough.

Alternatively, I believe your best solution is to wait for someone else to start a new article on Mr. Gauthier. I do not see that the article on Jim Davis was started by Mr. Davis himself or someone associated with him. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 12:17, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
