Mr Creakle is a fictional character in Charles Dickens's novel David Copperfield. He is the harsh head teacher of young David's boarding school, who is assisted by Tungay. Mr. Creakle is a friend of Mr. Edward Murdstone. He singles out David for extra torment. Later he becomes a Middlesex magistrate, but is considered enlightened for his day.
Mr Creakle was played by Ian McKellen in the 1999 adaptation of David Copperfield, which was shown on BBC1 over Christmas that year.
