Mozilla Developer Center

Mozilla Developer Center (MDC), started in early 2005, is the official Mozilla Foundation website for development documentation and news about Firefox, Thunderbird, and other Mozilla Foundation projects. It is intended to supplant the community-driven aspect of documents authored for the mozilla.org website.^{[citation needed]} To accomplish this, the website uses the MediaWiki software to maintain the user editable documents rather than CVS commits, as used for mozilla.org and determined to be too unwieldy shortly after MDC's inception.^[1]

Initially the website was seeded with content from DevEdge, for which the Mozilla Foundation was granted a license by AOL.^[2]^[3] Much work has gone into migrating content from mozilla.org.^[4] Many pages on mozilla.org now redirect to MDC. The site now contains a mix of content migrated from DevEdge and mozilla.org, as well as original and more up-to-date content.^[5]^[6]

The project was initially led by Mozilla Corporation employee Deb Richardson, although it has been led by Eric Shepherd since 2006.^[3]^{[citation needed]}

MDC is also informally called Devmo, short for developer.mozilla.org, the site's host name.^[2]

MDC has a newsgroup and an IRC channel #devmo on the Mozilla IRC Network. MDC is funded by the Mozilla Foundation with servers and employees.
