What are they called when they are sold in pet stores? Mouse-like hamsters (which seems a bit unwieldy, especially for kids) or just "hamsters"? After all, the American robin is not a true robin (like the European robin), but a species of thrush which just happens to have a red breast and reminded European settlers of the "original" robin.
